TL;DR
A staff-and-spell mage that stacks fire: Arsonist's flat fire damage, Wizard's spell crit, and the Chain Hit → Mass Destruction combo that turns every crit into an area blast. 1.0's spell rebalance and eternal spells removed the old charge-count anxiety entirely.

Stat priority
- Intelligence — +5% magic damage per point
- Critical chance — Wizard feeds Chain Hit, which feeds Mass Destruction
- Mana regeneration — Mana Currents or gear perks keep the rotation rolling
- Spirit as a secondary for mana pool
Recommended weapons
Grounded in verified 1.0 changes (armor set conversions, gem buffs) rather than datamined damage tables — our weapons database is still being verified.
| Slot | Early | Mid | Endgame |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon 1 | Any tier-1 staff; wands as backup for sustained filler damage | Revelwood-tier staff with fire damage perks | Eternal spells in your damage schools — every spell has an eternal version in 1.0, upgradeable like weapons via the class crafting survivor |
Eternal spells and their upgrade path are confirmed in the official 1.0 changelog.
Recommended armor
- Any intelligence-scaled cloth/arcane set from the mage crafting line
- Prioritize +magic damage, +crit and mana perks; upgrade armor at crafting survivors (equipment upgrades exist since Update 8)
Food & consumables
- Mana-regeneration meals from farm produce
- Fill all food slots before Shroud dives — attrition fights are where mages starve
Gear progression
Early (levels 1–15)
Spirit entry pip → Mage Apprentice → first Intelligence pips. Flat damage before anything fancy.
Mid (levels 15–30)
Arsonist 3, Wizard 3. Pick your second element based on the content you're pushing (Iceman/Thunder sit nearby).
BiS (levels 30–50)
Chain Hit → Mass Destruction, Blast and Cast, Totem Mastery, eternal spells upgraded at the class crafting survivor.
Playstyle
Control space: open with area fire on packs, focus staff/wand fire on priority targets, and let crits do the spreading — Chain Hit bounces, Mass Destruction explodes the neighborhood. Keep Blink-line skills in mind as your panic button (they're one branch over if you want to route there). In 1.0, wands gained a heavy attack and unlockable evasive/aerial attacks, so the wand is a real filler weapon between spell cooldowns, not just a stat stick.
Strengths & weaknesses
Strengths
- Highest area damage profile on the tree (Chain Hit + Mass Destruction)
- Eternal spells mean zero charge anxiety in the late game
- Strong at range with tools for every encounter shape
Weaknesses
- Squishy — positioning mistakes get punished
- Mana-hungry before regeneration comes online
- Area spells can pull extra packs in dense interiors
Synergies & counters
- Excellent behind a tank — Mass Destruction rewards bunched enemies someone else is holding
- Frost investment (one branch over) adds crowd control for harder content
What counters this build
Fire-resistant Fell packs slow you down — that's exactly why the tree puts Iceman and Thunder one branch away. Fast melee attackers that reach you between casts force Blink-line investment or a tank partner.
Level-by-level skill order
Suggested unlock order for the 32-point target — follow it roughly; the exact pace depends on how many Shroud Roots and Elixir Wells you've found (they fund the same pool of points).

Recommended gems
- Gem of Obsession had stats LOWERED in 1.0 — check the live numbers before committing
- Fire/frost/shock synergy gems per your second school
When NOT to pick this build
- You want a forgiving, tanky solo experience
- You hate managing mana and cooldowns
- Your group already has two damage mages — a support/healer mage contributes more
FAQ
What is the best mage build in Enshrouded 1.0?
For raw damage, fire crit (Arsonist + Wizard + Chain Hit + Mass Destruction) is the strongest area profile on the 1.0 tree, and 1.0's spell rebalance plus eternal spells removed the charge-count problem. Necromancer and support-healer mage are strong alternatives depending on your group.
Did mage builds change in 1.0?
Significantly. 1.0 added 9 new spell types, more tiers of existing spells, eternal versions of every spell, and new wand attacks (heavy, evasive and aerial) — plus new skill-tree nodes like Blast and Cast and Totem Mastery. Skill trees were also reset on first load.
Are eternal spells worth it?
Yes — per the official changelog they exist to eliminate running out of charges, they upgrade like weapons, and the class crafting survivors now upgrade eternal spells and eternal arrows directly.
